They are as close to the original fruit it came from as possible, which is the source of all chocolate and cocoa products. Like coffee beans, cacao is best in flavour and nutrients when freshly ground or crushed. Crush the cacao beans to cacao nibs or grind to make your own cacao powder for baking and culinary needs.

Raw cacao beans can be crushed into cacao nibs or ground into cacao powder. Keep in mind that cacao beans have a rich flavour and much more bitter taste than even the darkest of chocolates, as they contain no added sweeteners, so sweetness levels might have to be adjusted in the recipe. Cacao can be used in your baking, blended into nut butters, added to trail mix, granola or muesli, stirred into breakfast porridge, or sprinkled over smoothies and ice creams. Cacao can also be used in savoury sauces or used to crust meats.
