Marjoram is an aromatic herb that belongs to the mint family. It is native to the Mediterranean, North Africa and Western Asia. It has fresh, wood, citrusy and floral flavour profiles, similar to thyme and oregano. It is one of the herbs that make up “Herbes de Provence”, an aromatic bundle of herbs used in French cuisine, and is also one of the herbs used in Middle Eastern zaatar blend. It pairs well with vegetables, tomato based sauces, meat stews and poultry.
Marjoram pairs well with other herbs including oregano, thyme, rosemary, basil and tarragon. It can be used to season or flavour a variety of dishes including vegetables, chicken and meat. Add to broths, soups, sauces, stews and salad dressings.
